Sony Ericsson Android rumours - will they or won’t they?

Over the last couple of days, some new rumours have popped up about Sony Ericsson’s plans for getting an Android handset out into the wild. Unusually, though, the rumours don’t agree with each other. In fact, they flat out contradict each other! The first came when the CEO of the big mobile magnate said that it’s unlikely we’d see a Sony Ericsson Android phone before the end of 2009.

Now, however, it’s being reported by Engadget Mobile that Orange are going to be getting Sony Ericsson Android phones before the end of the year.

So, which one’s correct?

The second, more recent rumour goes on to say that Sony Ericsson actually plan on outsourcing the actual building of their Android phones to a separate company called Foxconn. Now, that’s not as far-fetched as it might sound, given that they outsourced the production of the Sony Ericsson X1 to HTC. Oh, and given rumours they want to split from HTC for their Windows Mobile phones, it seems sensible that they’d also not use HTC for their Android phones.

There’s no confirmation whether the rumour’s accurate, but if true, we should expect to see Sony Ericsson get their Android phones out there before, as the Americans call it, the holiday season.
