T-Mobile USA Makes Push Into Growing Embedded Devices Market

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--T-Mobile USA on Thursday unveiled an embedded SIM module for machines to help them connect to its cellular network as it looks to tap the growing embedded devices market.

With more than four out of every five consumers owning a cellphone, the wireless carriers are looking for places beyond the cellphone to connect. The carriers have sung the praises for connecting multiple devices, and T-Mobile USA is the latest to join the chorus. Nearly 20 million devices will have a cellular connection by 2012, according to Yankee Group.

The nation's fourth-largest wireless carrier - a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG (DT) - claims its embedded SIM module makes it easier and cheaper to connect devices, which the company feels gives it an edge.
